A California man charged with kidnapping his grandchildren 20 years ago must wear an ankle monitor and remain on house arrest throughout court proceedings, according to court records. Marvin Maple, 73, was extradited from San Jose, Calif., after he was charged Feb. 4 with abducting Christi and Bobby Baskin in March 1989. They were 8 and 7 years old respectively when they disappeared.
Maple was released from the Rutherford County jail Friday after his $1 million bond was reduced to $100,000. A family member paid the full bond amount for his release, a booking officer at the Rutherford County jail said.
But, according to court records, financial conditions alone were “not sufficient enough to properly and reasonably secure (Maple’s) presence at further proceedings.”
Assistant District Attorney Alan Hale and Maple’s attorney, Greg Reed, agreed on the following conditions for Maple’s release:
Maple must:
—wear an ankle monitor that will allow police to know his location at all times.
—remain on house arrest for the duration of court proceedings.
—surrender any passports he possessed under any name.
—provide information to the state regarding any and all bank accounts or other financial holdings he has.
The order, signed by Judge David Loughry, states that if any of the conditions are not met, Maple’s bond would be revoked and he would be returned to the Rutherford County jail.
